The advantage of a ratchet is speed, but you can't force the mechanism, which can give way. Should this happen to you, however, the design of round and FAST ratchets means that only the mechanism can be repaired.

HOW TO REPAIR A MOB RATCHET?

Generation 1: If the ratchet has a screw on the top, unscrew it.

Generation 2: hunting with a square-sided pin-hunter. 

Unscrew the nut with a 10mm socket. Then brush.    

Get a repair kit.

Grease before fitting the ratchet. Position core spring.   

Position the crown so that the nipple is in the green area of the diagram. 

Tighten nut with 10mm socket. 

Then release 1/4 turn.   

Fit the spring and knob, then screw on using an 8 mm Torx.
